Blast from the past!

Former student and now professional author, Cassandra Golds, found this Youtube link and wanted to share it:

“These are the various musical groups at Penrith Primary School, recorded in 1972, when I was in Year 4. I can’t get over how good they are! Mr Doug Pope, who I adored, is conducting the band and the drums in the final item are played by Mr Rose, who I also adored.”

1. Battle Hymn of the Republic – Brass Band
2. Humpty Dumpty – Senior Choir
3. Air – Flute Band
4. Six Little Ducks – Guitar Club
5. Gone the Rainbow – Recorder Band
6. Swinging Safari – Recorders and Guitars.

Many thanks, Cassandra, what a thrill!

Side 2 is HERE.

7. Pokare Kare Ana – Junior Choir
8. Morning has Broken – Recorder Band
9. We Shall Not Be Moved – Guitar Club
10. Bonnie Dundee – Flute Band
11. Hello Dolly – Brass Band.

Recorded at the school hall to vinyl in 1972. Audio digitised and video produced by Richard Hamilton, 2010.

Archeological dig
Our historic school milk bottles are now enshrined in a shadow box.

The inside text reads: Penrith Public School’s library stands on the site of a portable library building, and before that a previous portable building. In 2010, workmen excavating the foundations found these “school milk” bottles buried deep in the rubble. One is embossed “1/3 PINT PASTEURISED MILK”.

See the original blog entry of our archeological find HERE.

Wow! Thanks Maralyn Parker and our mystery nominator!

31 March 2011: “To Penrith Public School students and teachers, especially teacher-librarian Ian McLean, hearing support teacher Kerrie Mead and kindergarten teacher and Student Representative Council organiser Lacey Ingle, for the wonderful slideshow in support of the Christchurch earthquake appeal. Creative, clever and deeply moving.”

Note that the article says “sideshow” (sic).

Poster children!

#353

I feel like a proud father. The students at my school, Penrith Public School, were asked (late last year) to be the “poster children” of this year’s NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge poster. The posters arrived today and they look fantastic! Not that I’m biased. Definitely one to get framed for our new BER school library when it’s built.

Meanwhile, a teacher-librarian colleague recommended this great Youtube video clip:

Ocoee Middle School’s “Gotta keep reading” Youtube song, based on a Black-Eyed Peas hit song.
